Response Teams

Primary Purpose:
Primary investigative and interdiction arm of the Organization. Null Cells locate, assess, and either contain or prepare for eradication of anomalous threats. They are the field units most likely to include player-controlled operatives in a campaign.

Doctrine:
Null Cells value flexibility and autonomy. Each cell is trained to operate independently with limited oversight. Decision authority rests with the cell lead within clearly defined engagement parameters. Null Cells employ containment-first thinking: stabilize, document, and hand off to Observational or Kill assets as needed.

Typical Composition:

  • Lead Agent (field commander, tactical decision authority)

  • Occult Specialist (lore, ritual recognition)

  • Containment/Science Expert (artifact handling, field containment rigs)

  • Combat/Extraction Operative (security and close quarters)

  • Civilian Liaison or Deep Cover Operative (for local relationships and non-official cover)

Typical Missions:

  • Investigation of reported Veil-thin sites and initial threat classification.

  • Short-term containment of artifacts and small entities pending transfer to Vault.

  • Infiltration of suspected cult cells to gather intelligence and rescue potential victims.

  • Escort and secure handoff to Observation Teams for extended study.

  • Interdiction of foreign or private groups attempting to trade for anomalous items.

Operational Constraints & Warnings:

  • Null Cells should avoid prolonged exposure to cult sermons, recorded hymns, or ritual performances. Use auditory protection and limit interrogation to short, scheduled bursts.

  • Document everything physically. Bring blank notebooks, film rolls, and unconnected cameras to preserve evidence.

  • If a Stillborn is confirmed in proximity, retreat and request Kill Team authorization. Null Cells are not equipped to neutralize Stillborn-class entities.

Standard Tools & Kit:

  • Portable aetheric dampers (battery-backed devices to suppress memetic resonance)

  • Iron and silver implements, consecrated seals, and religious icons per Doctrine Appendix

  • Field stabilization devices (salt grids, copper mesh blankets, containment tents)

  • Analog recording equipment and physical film (digital equipment tends to corrupt around Veil anomalies)

  • Medical kits with neurostabilizers and anti-memetic sedatives

  • Forged federal credentials and prearranged cover materials

  • Light denial gear (red filters, blackout curtains) and nonreflective fabric
